Designed as a minimalist unit to keep your space less cluttered, the Department Table by Daniel Schofield Studio offers a new take on the regular coffee table design. The Departmental Table stands on three legs and has three circular areas assigned for various objects usually found on coffee table and the side tables. Each of the three turned surfaces provides subtle differences to adapt to the objects. During the design process, a lot of experimentation was done with the composition of the various surfaces in response to the way people interact with them.

Highly functional and playful at the same time, the Puzzle coffee table by London based designer Tony O’Neill looks like any other regular table at the first glance, but it’s sure to amaze you the way it transforms its tabletop. Designed on the basis of a puzzle in geometric dissection, the Puzzle’s tabletop switches its shape between a square and an equilateral triangle. The segments have been fixed in either the square or the triangular arrangement with the help of a thumb-catch. When the user slips the catch and turns the segments 180-degrees, the triangle transforms into a square and vice-versa.

LEM inspired Moonland table pays tribute to Neil Armstrong

Showcased at the Design Market area of Abitare il Tempo, Verona 2012, the Moonland by Marco Guazzini is a small coffee table that pays tribute to Neil Armstrong. Inspired by the Lunar Excursion Module (LEM) he landed on the Moon, this coffee table features six tubular legs that been screwed to a steel ring. The Moonland coffee table has a metal sheet semi sphere that serves as a container for your stuff. It has a lacquered MDF tabletop. The container, inspired by the way LEM leaves the Earth leaving behind the remaining platform, can be detached according to your needs to use the Moonland as another small coffee table.

This coffee table lets you create unique surface pattern to suit your needs

Created by multidisciplinary designer Sam Stringleman from Wellington, New Zealand, this coffee table is an upshot of further exploration into surface that started with his previously designed Fall Off table that combined edginess with a digital biology. The basic idea behind the coffee table is that the support material is to be added only when it’s needed, thereby making for a dynamic and unique surface pattern on the table. Users can place the hexagonal tiles on the cells on the coffee table according to their needs and the size of the objects you want to place on the table.

Reversible Table transforms from coffee table to dining table with a simple flip

If you happen to live in an urban apartment setting, chances are you do not have too much of space and that’s where multifunctional furniture units can be of great usage. Designed by Kutarq Studios, the Reversible Table is an elegant furniture unit that can be used as both a coffee table and a dining table by simply flipping it over. As a dining table, it stands 73cm in height and when transformed into a coffee table, it is 35sm high. While those legs might seem a bit strange at the first glance, but then you can hang your coats, hats or other items on it, which does make a whole lot of sense for the crunched spaces.

Coffee table made from metal parts of a vintage tractor

British designer and artist Toby Poolman aims to explore the relationship between concept, aesthetics and functionality through his one-of-a-kind sculptures and furniture pieces. At the Tent London design event, he displayed his unique wall art and a coffee table made from the obsolete metal parts of an old Ferguson tractor. The old, rustic machine was first cautiously dismantled and then, each part was cleaned, shaped and welded to bring the “TE 2255557 01” sculptural coffee table to life. The recycled engineering components have been coated with a protective finish.

Minimalist Coffee Break Table with space for your magazines

Unlike the high tech coffee tables we have covered earlier, the Coffee Break Table designed by Francisco Pitschieller of Portugal, in collaboration with Joao Croft De Moura, is all about simplicity and minimalism. Born out of the concept of flexibility of the everyday objects, the Coffee Break table is easy to assemble and store, and is designed to for both indoor and outdoor use. Finding another use of a service tray as a table, the entire transformation process is straightforward. A 2mm thick plastic sheet has been converted into a cylinder with the help of metal joints. The sheet has been further cut to make space for two elastic bands that hold your magazines and newspapers.
