ShareKey

Opening doors using an app is not a new thing, but the concept is still far from being used by the masses. Researchers at the Fraunhofer Institute for Secure Information Technology have now developed the ShareKey software, which makes the key app concept more versatile and secure. The new software solution will be demonstrated at the CeBIT trade fair in Hannover, Germany (March 5-9, 2013). ShareKey functions using the Near Field Communication (NFC) transmission standard and sends electronic keys directly to the your mobile phone, in the form of a QR code attached to an e-mail or MMS.

With the ShareKey, users can issue digital keys remotely and assign specific user permissions. For example, while you are busy at the office, you can grant the electrician the permission to enter your home for a short time. The new app solution easily integrates into existing access control systems. The ShareKey has been developed around advanced technologies to offer the best safety and security, and it keeps sensitive data on the smartphone separate from other data and apps.
